The above photos (1961) were kindly supplied by Frank McKinnell. They give a great insight in what was involved to built and erect these towers.

These 2021 photos were supplied by John Bylund

Screenshot of old map supplied by
MLC in late 2019.
This 1995 photo was supplied by
Clinton Bailey in Sep 2021
Clinton also supplied the following information: "It was taken from the south east and as you can see there is no glass left in the windows. I climbed it in 1993 and most of the louvred glass was still extant.
Not 100% sure but I was told this was last manned for one or two days in the late 80s, due to strong winds that grounded CALM’s then fleet of Piper Cub aircraft. During that event the FLO was a Len Yardley who said he was told to come down at a certain point but had to ride it out as it was too late. He said he sheltered under the map table and at some point all the louvers on one side were sucked out. He also said it took nearly two hours for two gangs to get the track in cleared from fallen timber."

We have some drone footage here. The supplier is unknown and we think it is shot in 2019. If you know who shot the footage, please contact us here so we can give credit to where it's due. Thanks.

We were contacted by John Bylund in August 2021 in relation to the removal, restoration and re-erection of the Munro fire tower to a museum in Collie. The preperations for this are in full swing with approval from DBCA granted. We will keep you updated as more news comes to hand.

In Nov 2025, The Heritage Skills Association WA posted an article about the Mungalup Fire Tower Hut Restoration. Once completed, the hut will hopefully be placed on the restored Munro Tower.

In January 2026, Bushy reported: "Tower still in place. Have found these in Sept 2024 council minutes explaining the project is ongoing. There does appear to be some earthworks near the Collie Recreation centre when I passed through so maybe we'll see it moved this year."
