Mt. Hooghly finished as a Forest Commission tower in 1962 with the lease to APM Forests of areas north of the Grand Ridge. Looking at the photo, we can say that Mt. Hooghly Fire Lookout is no longer in use.

We have found 4 different spellings for this tower: Mt. Hooghly, Mt. Hoohgly, Mt. Hooghily and Mt. Houghly.
All 4 names were found in official papers from the Forest Commission of Victoria. We are still researching for the real name.
In some FCV documentation about Stanley Type prefrabicated huts, dated 24th Oct 1951, it reads: 'In the event that the combined Cabin and Lookouts structures designed by the Architect for Mount Houghly and Mount Fatigue are not erected in time for the coming summer, two of the above will be required for temporary use at these points."
Then on the 14th Aug 1959 it wass reported that "the hut at Mt. Hooghly was in poor condition."

We received a report in December 2009 that the roof is now missing.
